F. Liszt (transcr. N. Szederkenyi): Mephisto Waltz No. 1 – ISMN 9790700432126

This marvellous and at the same time “devilish” music is a bit more than just a transcription, as the most suitable parts for a violin and harp duet have been included from the original work. Inspired by Milstein’s transcription for solo violin, this version has all the main themes by Liszt, using the most virtuoso technical elements possible for both instruments.

Helping to enlarge the repertoire of the violin & harp literature, this is a nice change for players and audience equally, merging the whole orchestra into a duet of violin and harp.

This work has been transcribed from both, piano and orchestral versions of Liszt’s original music. Using many of the piano part’s technical elements combined with the melodic flow from the orchestral score, it is a work in itself, still with original keys, rhythms etc.

Written by Hungarian violin virtuoso Nandor Szederkenyi, former concertmaster in several major orchestras from Japan to Austria, who also had a long career as soloist.

Published using the leading notation software Finale, he includes bowings and fingerings, in collaboration with his duo partner/daughter who was took care of the pedal markings of the harp part.

A professional recording of this transcription is available at iTunes and other major audio distribution platforms, or just listen to the “Shall we dance…?” trailer video on YouTube.
